Highly recommended! I've been to Ixora several times and always enjoyed their prompt and courteous service, delicious Japanese specialties and elegant decor. Great sushi! Other dishes are as good as in Manhattan but larger in size. The authentic Japanese desserts.
My husband and I are planning to have his birthday dinner there.
not a Japanese quite..: Since I am from Japan, my review might be to harsh for them....but the tempura I've got was something I can never get in Tokyo kind....which was too greasy and too much batter around the shrimps and vegitables. The sauce for tempura was not something I could even taste. Miso soup had too much MSG...
But the desert was excellent! I wonder if they only open for tea time so that I can go for sweets and tea.
Although service and deco was very good, I do not know if I would go back there except for tea time.
Great food, but slow and bad service: Our party of 4 visited Ixora on a Saturday night. Some really excellent food was marred by very slow delivery of our three courses (appetizers, main and dessert), and very unprofessional presentation of all 3 courses. In each case, 1 or 2 of us were served, then the others would be served 1-5 minutes later. In the appetizer course, one person waited 10 minutes for her seaweed salad -- a cold dish -- to show up after the rest of us got our appetizers. I asked the captain to open a bottle of wine, he said yes then disappeared for 10-15 minutes. At least 30 minutes elapsed between appetizers and main dishes. It may have been more, but I looked at my watch the first time someone mentioned we'd been waiting for a long time, and another 20 minutes went by after that point. In all, our dinner lasted 3 and a half hours. fortunately they have comfortable chairs.
Three of us got sushi dinners and they were all happy with those dishes. I got oyster fritters for my appetizer, which were absolutely delightful but a little on the greasy side. For the main dish I got the beef tenderloin which was truly excellent. The sauce it was in was a little on the oily/greasy side but delicious. I happen to like oil but it could put some people off.
In all, I can only give this restaurant 3 stars because the food is 5 stars but the experience was 1 star. I would not go back -- life is too short!
