This is likely as authentic as you are going to get. The clientele are almost all vietnamese-americans. The food is excellent. The service is alright, and the atmosphere is loud, busy, but comfortable. Here is where you can enjoy inexpensive, authentic Vietnamese dishes like; barbeque pork chop on rice, pho bo beef stew(Hue style), lemongrass chicken, fried sugarcane with shrimp paste. This is among the very best vietnamese restaurants in New York. I should know I have eaten in several dozen, and for over twenty years. Nam Son is my favorite.
I loved the Pho broth, Cha Gio Rolls and Bun Cha noodles....Very very good. Much better than San Fran. I liked the food a lot...very authentic. One of the best Pho Bo broths that I have had at a restaurant in the US...same with the Bun Cha (the one with the grilled pork and cha gio rolls)
I l*ve pan-Asian food...Japanese and Chinese...: ...are neck and neck as being my favourite. However I did really l*ve dining at this joint. The food was spicy and different. I look forward to going back and experiencing this small eatery, tucked away, away from the major avenues.
