| About: | An old fashioned treat, John's serves some of the best Italian classics in the city. Dishes like Eggplant Rolatina and Veal Marsala go for less than they would in most tourist spots in Little Italy and the daily specials are usually outstanding. The ambiance is very retro, complete with frescos and candlelight. In such comfortable environs, you will feel equally comfortable bringing anyone from a date to your mother. Cash only. |

John's has been a family favorite since 1984, when my parents moved into a co-op apartment directly across the street. Though my parents now live elsewhere in NYC, and I'm out of state, John's is always a must-visit destination when I'm back in the city. Food, atmosphere, service--all top-notch.
Calamari all the way!: Great old school place. Better than the local competition on First Ave. Hopefully there are no teeth left over from "The Sopranos" episode. The back room is a little nicer for a date but it's all very comfortable and fun. Friendly and prompt service - they score high here for being attentive but unobtrusive. The food is excellent and there is plenty of it. My favorite is the calamari marinara. The salads and desserts are winners too. Prices are VERY reasonable. A home run all the way.
Great Food, Great Atmosphere: This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the East Village, surpassing most in Little Italy. Great place for a date; be sure to get a seat in the back!
