I give this 5 stars but it is not open 24x7 so I am letting the food taste outrank the hours. I am crazy about some of the food items here and the price cannot be beat. Everythign looks great and most of the stuff tastes as good as they look. Some of the fancy pastry items are actually not as good tasting as they look but anything baked is usally top shelf. I would recommend this to anybody but it is mostly a local joint for asians I guess. I know there is Vietnamese people in here because of the Neon sign in Viet and there is Chinese signs too so I guess there are just a mix of people from Chinatown.
I actually love this place. I've been going here I guess for almost 10 years. The owner Tom is a great guy and I enjoy chatting with him. The food that comes out of that kitchen is just incredible and a pleasure to eat or even just to look at.
If you have never been to a Chinese Bakery before it is a fantastic treat and really more of a culinary experience. Don't expect to pay 3 bucks for a giant and super delicious croissant hot out of the oven. It's around 70 cents here.
My highest recommendations for quality, variety, and price. The only drawback is that when it's busy like on a Saturday or Sunday morning, you have to wait a few minutes to seat a large party. It you are ever visiting New York I would put this on your short list for breakfast - you will be glad you did.
I live in Brooklyn and I work in lower Manhattan. This place is excellent for food to go. On the weekends it is actually a little crowded but during the week it is easy to get a table. Even on the weekends you can get a table but you might have to wait a couple minutes. And it's "family style" meaning if you are by yourself with your morning paper, you might have to share a table with some strangers but everyone is friendly. My favorite items are the "bubble tea" which is only available after 10:00 AM for some reason and the baked pork bun which in my opinion is the best in the city. The owner Tom speaks about 5 languages and he is a great guy. I think he owns another place like this in Queens.
