| About: | This Lower East Side venue for live concerts routinely showcases the best in new and underground music. Acts, such as They Might Be Giants, Paula Cole, Luna, Saint Etienne, and Abba cover band Bjorn Again have all performed here. The space, which was once a vaudeville theater, boasts of an excellent sound system and plenty of ideal viewing. Those wanting to hang back should check out the balcony. If you want more action, you will be happy to learn that the front rows routinely turn into dancing pits. Ticket prices vary, see their website for a full list of events. |

Sketchy bouncers and manager. I went to a concert tonight and the bouncer wouldn't accept my govt-issued U.S. passport. He confiscated it saying it looked fake, which it is not, and offered to "take me somewhere to show me it's fake" (we think this was a threat) How he would do this, I do not know. Anyway I summoned the manager who agreed with him that it looked fake, obviously he was full of crap since I've had this passport for over one year and maybe a hundred bouncers, cashiers, and bartenders have accepted it without problem. I suspect they were attempting to steal it for whatever reason. Luckily I got it back at the end of the night--luckily for them since they were breaking the law and I could probably have sued if they hadn't returned it to me--but there is something sketchy about these people.
This was my third time at this establishment since last November. They have accepted the very same passport without problem. Their refusal, their vague explanation, and the conviction with which they claimed it to be fake suggests something weird about them.
If you're going here, do not bring a passport, they either do not know what they are or want to steal them.
Army Of Anyone @ Bowery: I saw Army Of Anyone here on 02/01 and I thought this was a great venue. Parking in the middle of the day was a little difficult (and expensive, but that's probably because I'm from Jersey and not used to shelling out so much for parking!). However, I enjoyed the intimacy of the venue and I'd definitely come back here again for another show!
great venue with a unique ambience.: saw many diverse bands here; great art deco/gothic venue that retains an edge for presenting live music - good bar also helps!
