| About: | This restaurant is a bit of Tuscany in the East Village. Delicious pastas and other fine dishes, attentive service and enchanting atmosphere lend authenticity to this Italian dining experience. Prices are fair and there are excellent prix fixe and tasting menus available on weekdays. Dark draperies, candlelight and mirrors set a romantic mood. Popular pastas include tagliatele with sweet fennel sausage, fedelini with caramelized garlic chips, and spicy linguine with baby clams. Entrees like seared porcini dusted salmon and wood roasted whole fish with basil panzanella are also well received. |

HONESTLY THE BEST ITALIAN DOWNTOWN
AWESOME PASTA.. great service wonderful lighting.. can not say enough...
The city sleeps, but not Lavagna: After an impromptu cocktail following a Broadway show, we arrived in Nolita after 11p to find -- to our horror -- that the kitchen at our buzz-worthy restaurant choice was closed. A work colleague not only recommended Lavagna, but he called ahead to ensure that we would be served. By the time we arrived, it was closer to midnight. The owner, I think his name was "Yorgo" (phonetically spelled), greeted us with old-world Italian charm and hospitality. We had a lovely meal and, when I waffled between two brunellos, Yorgo brought the second bottle -- gratis -- to our table, and we drank to each other's health into the wee hours. I highly recommend this restaurant, for the type of New York restaurant experience that (I thought) only happens in the movies.
A Great Option for Food and Friends: Lavagna is a great spot... not a huge menu but everything tastes great. There's no sense of rush, so you can 'dine' instead of scoff, like you have to at some other of ther nicer places. The staff is always lovely, and the spot itself is pleasant to be in. Outside tables in the summer seal the deal.
