The Color Purple: Excellent food and atmosphere. My favorite dish is the Steak Fajita, though there are dishes to all tastes. You just can't miss the cactus marguerita, it is awesome. And is pink, matching the purple flowers painted on the walls.
Ersatz Mexico in Chelsea: I grew up in Tucson, so I get a tad picky about Mexican restaurants. Salsa y Salsa serves wonderful, tasty, not-quite-authentic Mexican fare in a pleasant but often boisterous astmosphere. The Yucatán Chicken makes for a hearty and flavorful meal, and although the green rice provides a great complement to the dish, I don’t think (correct me if I’m wrong) you’d be served the same thing at a restaurant in Mérida (I know I wasn’t). Nonetheless, the food is of consistent quality, with a fairly wide selection of dishes. For a while, they’ve had a spectacular chicken salad offered as one of their specials, and we can only hope that it will become a permanent fixture on their menu.
Service can get a little dicey, particularly when the place fills up, and food may arrive promptly, or you may feel as deserted as the Sonora. And if the term “boisterous” didn’t clue you in, it can get a little loud, too.
My favorite margarita (although it just went up in price) is the one made with El Tesoro Silver—the best tequila you’d want to spoil by putting into a drink.
