Company Information: If you are greeted with a pat on the head and hoisted up on a stool, you know you are in Billy's Bakery. Very old-school retro, from the walls to the wallpaper, it's indeed charming given that it's New York. Fancy a cupcake, cookie, chocolate or muffin then Billy's bakery is the way to head. Cakes can be ordered from Billy's Bakery a day in advance, and if something elaborate, maybe two.
Hours of Operation: M-Th 9am-11pm, F 9am-mid, Sa 9am-mid, Su 10am-11pm

Better than Magnolia: Started by a disgruntled Magnolia employee, Billy's Bakery is a similar establishment but without the wait. The cupcakes are equally delicious, and the red velvet cake is hard to beat. Someone bought me a birthday cake made of hundreds of homemade oreo-style cookies and I have to say it was the most original cake I've eaten.
If you're at Magnolia and frustrated with the 45 minute wait, get out of line, walk up 9th avenue, get your cupcake and head back. You'll be eating before your friends even make it halfway to the door.
Beyond the Cupcake: I have enjoyedd the place since its opening week, even with ther limited seating. What a pleasure to see the behind the scenes close up, especially the girls icing the cupcakes and the guys mixing tha batters. And then to enjoy the out of this world chocolate-peanutbutter pie. and at times that Hello Dolly bar. And take that pie home!!
Red Velvet Cup Cake!: I think it's brilliant that they came up with The Red Velvet Cup Cake. I went there on a rainy day one time, the plan was only to make a quick stop and take some cakes to go but the ambiance was sooo inviting that I ended up eating a slice of Red Velvet accompanied with hot Chamomile tea... Relaxing indeed...
