SHOCKED!: I was out fishing near the Verazzano Narrows and decided that it would be nice to pickup my wife from work. We both work in Chelsea so I asked her to meet me at the Surfside 3 Marina at about 5:00pm. As I entered the Marina which was still empty due to the early Spring a guy came out to the dock and asked what I was doing. He advised that there was a fee of 3 dollars a foot to tie up at the dock for four hours. I said I was just picking someone up and really didnt need to tie up and that they would just jump in and we would go. He insisted that we could not even touch the dock without a fee. He said to just pick up a person it was 1 dollar a foot. A dollar a foot for a touch and go? I went back out and waited for her to arrive and I went back in to the dock. This time the Marina had two guys chasing both her and me at the same time. We did land the boat there and picked her up after a brief conversation he did agree to "let me go this time" and I took off. I am a member of a normal Yacht Club in New Jersey and we welcome anyone to use our facility and even pick them up if they use a mooring. I have been all over New York and New Jersey and most good clubs welcome others to their facilities. Some do charge a small fee for overnight stays but most are free. I guess even though I work in NYC I will never get used to the abrasive people!
