A Must for NYC Ethiopian: This is I believe a family owned restaurant and they do a fantastic job with this place.
The food is excellent --- we go for the vegeterian combo plate and have never been disappointed. Enjoy!
Deliciously Exotic - Rare Find: This warm, friendly, family-run inexpensive secret in Soho was drawing crowds as early as 6.00pm on a weeknight - striking paintings showcasing upcoming Ethopian Artists and soft lights add to the ambience. The staff is attentive and the service is fast.
The food - with its fresh ingredients had authentic and delectable flavours. The special bread with the hommus and starters are to die for - the beef was tender enough to melt in your mouth - the salad is crisp and the subtle spices will tingle your tastebuds with anticipation.
The restaurant boasts an impressive and innovative selection of aged wines to compliment the menu.
A must visit 'one of its kind' in the City.
Some of the best Ethiopian I've had: I've been to quite a few Ethiopian restaurants in SF, DC and now this place in NYC, and I think this, Ghenet, is my favorite. Three of us split a large combo platter, and had a few Addis beers. The chicken (doro) dish, and the spicy bean dish were standouts.
The restaurant has a nice ambiance, with great pieces of Ethiopian-themed art on the walls, in addition to a display cabinet near the front showing off Ethiopian arts and crafts. A small six-seat bar is near the enterance, with close together but comfortable small tables making up the bulk of the seating. It's a welcoming environment just a few steps south of hectic Houston on Mulberry, super convenient to the Broadway/Lafayette B/D subway stop.
Three of us had the large combo platter and two beers each for $92 before tip.
