Excellent food! The size of the portions are huge! Excellent prices also. Even on a busy Saturday night during the summer we didn't wait long for a seat.

The price was so-so. Nice and roomy compared to other restaurants in NY. We did take-out and they messed up our order, but it was still delicious. Gnocchi was second to only one place in Boston, and I consider myself an afficionado on that subject.

    by Terrific Place!!

My girlfriend and I took a trip to the city and ate at La Mela's for dinner. She had been there once before and said she loved it and since I love Italian food we gave it a shot. She warned me that the portions were large but I had no idea. We ordered the 4 course meal for two and after the mozarella and tomatoes, and the other appetizer dish I was already on my way to stuffed. The pasta dish was fanastic and the meat dish was terrific as well, although we brought most of it home. The veal was especially tasty. The atmosphere was very pleasant. Two men walked around with guitars and serenaded each table with classic italian songs. Over all it was a good time. My only suggestion is do not eat the entire day before you go here. As I emphasized above, the portions are wonderfully large. You will not leave this place hungry!!!
