| About: | This old-fashioned West Village pub dates back to 1880, and it is famous for being the location where the great poet Dylan Thomas drank himself to death. Shy poetry enthusiasts might be disturbed by the rowdy after-office bar scene and the greasy food that only a drunk could love. Nevertheless, the place is oozing with history and character. In good weather, there is additional seating outside in front of the bar. |

I have only great memories of the White Horse. I was born 82 years ago, on Perry St., one block away. i remember the bar because I used to have to get my father and my uncle home for supper. I couldn't send my sisters because no women were allowed in the White Horse. My cousin Eddy Brennan was owner last I heard. There's no place like it - a New York landmark. ....May you be a half hour in heaven before the "divil" knows you're gone!!
I stop by here every month or two: I like this place. It's definately a much a better time when you can sit outside, still it's a nice bar in a nice area of the city. The history of the place is also pretty cool. Good bar food.
Great place to hang out.: The outdoor tables are actually on an avenue that is not insanely loud like most of Manhattan. Uptown of this classic establishment. I wouldn't go for the food though, go for the atmosphere and well poured beer. It can get crowded at times but there are plenty of nearby alternatives with similar character and quality.
