| About: | This Midtown hot spot has developed a reputation for good steaks and a mostly male business crowd. Dry-aged beef is served in hearty portions, as well as extra-thick veal and lamb chops. Seafood selections include red snapper and striped bass. Large dining rooms with dark antique furniture and staid paintings create the atmosphere. Black-tied waiters and efficient service set the pace. There is also an amazing wine list, with huge selections and amazingly affordable prices. Mafia enthusiasts take note: Mobster Paul Castellano, the Gambino boss was murdered outside of Sparks in 1985. |

By far the best steak I have had anywhere. There sirloin is unbeatable.
Sparks Steakhouse is a mainstay of New York City steakhouses. I went with a few friends to try it out. The decor was very much what you would expect from a NYC steakhouse - wood panels, jackets, etc. It seemed a little pretentious, but thankfully the food was good and it was able to back up the atmosphere. Slightly overpriced but a good steak nonetheless. The wine list was pretty good, too.
terrible food, terrible service: recomended by a friend, but i must have just had a bad experience. food tasted like it came off my bbq, (not what I would expect from such an upscale restaraunt). The service was also poor, my water being re-filled only once and since we sat at an end table, the waiters continually banged into the back of my booth!
