Pros: The best steakhouse in the world, based on a person that just ate at Peter Luger's steakhouse in Brooklyn the night before. I went to Keen's on 36th st in NYC. I loved the atmosphere and great service. The choice of scotch was superbly excellent. The steaks was cut overly thick but easy to eat as it melted in your mouth. The sides were all excellent. You just can't go wrong at Keen's Steakhouse.
I have been dining at Keens for over twenty years as I travel to New York several times each year. I find Keens a home away from home. The staff is very competent and always gracious. The general manager makes a point of working the multiple dining rooms to check on quality of service. She is constantly refilling water glasses and making sure that things are flowing smoothly. The lamb chops are out of this world and the filet is superb. Never had the mutton but hear from friends that it is terrific. You can never go wrong with any of the sides and the vegetable tray and hot brerad served upon arrival is a meal in itself. They make a great martini as well. Keens has provided me and many of my apparel industry friends with wonderful memories of fine dinners over the years. If we are in town for three nights, we sometimes eat at Keens at least two nights. You can't go wrong. I love the place!
I went to Keen's while in New York the week of Oct. 18, 2008 and it was among the top three meals I have ever had. What an experience. We chose Keen's for its history and you can sense it from the time you walk in the door. It is high-class but not fancy. Just authentic. We went an hour early and sat in the bar, and I'm glad we did. After only a 5-minute wait we got to sit at the bar and spent the next 45 minutes soaking up the atmosphere, chatting with the bartender, and having a great time. Then we went upstairs to our table. I had the NY strip, bone in, and my friend had the filet & lobster combo. We shared carrots and potato hash (fantastic). The meal was excellent, great service, never rushed, and it is hard to explain the atmosphere but it is just a great experience. We shared bananas foster for desert, coffee, and bailey's on the side. What a meal. I will never forget it and can't wait to go back. I highly recommend it.
