| About: | Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you. |

We go into NY just to go to Carmine's. The food is great and service is always attentive. I prefer the one on the upper westside because they cater to the neighborhood. The one downtown is usually full of tourists going to Broadway shows. You will not be disappointed if you eat there.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!: I am a life long New Yorker and into Italian food BIG TIME and this is TRUE Italian food!!! I have been to many other authentic Italian places in NYC that are way more acclaimed and they don't come close. The portions are ridiculously huge (feed about 4) and are almost all under $25. Great place to go with a large group although you must make reservations way in advance otherwise you could wait up to 3 hrs! Very lively and noisy. I have gone at least 20 times and everytime I was extremely pleased. I recommend the Special Salad (feeds about 8), portobellos parm, linguini country style, ragu, and of course the Titanic!
Food is average or less than average. Large portions but some pasta dishes are almost inedible. Check the check twice, my waiter has added two margaritas ... 'by mistake'.
A good place to fill-in your stomack but not a place to impress a guest.

Totally disagree. Food is much better than average. I've brought and sent several people there for dinner and not one of them was dissapointed. Always looking to go back.
