About:This Jewish-style (but not kosher) deli on the Upper West Side of Manhattan features pastrami sandwiches and hot dogs that are worth traveling out of your way for. Locals also come to Artie's for its matzoh ball soup, corned beef, brisket and other cholesterol-laden food, all of which make great leftovers. There is ample outdoor seating along Broadway in good weather, and a special breakfast menu includes omelets and a Smoked Salmon Platter. The waiters have plenty of charisma, and for the most part they are friendly and accommodating.

We dined here twice during our ten day trip to NYC. The waitresses were entertaining: efficient and polite enough, but a little gruff. It fit the image we had of a NY jewish deli, so we enjoyed it as part of the ambiance. The breakfasts are very good, excellent eggs and the french toast was fabulous. The lunches are even better, including for vegetarians! They serve you the best pickles and cole slaw before you even order. This is far less crowded than other delis that I didn't like as much (like Carnegie).

We went to Artie's in Feb. 2008. We are from Southern California and we were looking for places to go that acreamed New York. Artie's was great. From the people working there to the food. The atmosphere was wonderful. We had one of the specialty sandwiches. It had pastrami, corned beef, swiss, cole slaw and russian dressing. It came with these pickles that were unlike anything we had ever had in California. We are so going back there if we get to go for our 20th anniversay next year.

Filthy: The last time i was there was two weeks ago. I had dirty silverwares and asked for clean ones which i got after 20 minutes. The waitress smelled scotch and cigarettes. The menus were oily.
