Just don't look at what you're eating - and don't look at the bill either. Promises fresh beef in its flagship dish, feijada, which only brazilians know how it's made properly (and how to spell it). My wife is from Bahia, and there was not one piece of fresh beef to be found in her dish. When we asked the manager, he said that they don't put fresh beef in the dish, just cured. Hmmm, I think I can read and "fresh" is what it says on the menu. Because the cured beef travels all the way from Brazil to your dish in New York it tends to get a bit, well, old. Yet, Via Brasil charges $5 more for this dish than competitor across the street Emporio Brasil which claims not to put fresh beef in its feijada. You decide if you want to spend lots of money (it's the most expensive dish on the menu) on a non-authentic stew of black beans (cheap), sausage (cheap) and a little bit of dried beef (if you're lucky). Service was friendly, exchanging a caipiroska with juice from dated limes with a fresh one on the spot. Good if you've never been to Brazil and don't know what real brazilian food is supposed to taste like. Otherwise, my advice is to look elsewhere for a more reasonably priced and hopefully more authentic brazilian dinner. Also, I visited Via Brasil last about six years ago, and the atmosphere is no longer romantic or cosy. We'll venture elsewhere and so should you. Good luck!

Via Brazil... An Awesome Food Experience: I've been to this restaurant a few times and I never tire of their food. It's absolutely MAGNIFICENT! It may be a bit pricey, but the food and service are well worth it. To begin, as an appetizer I would definitely recommend the Yucca, filled with beef...but beware, you're going to want to eat more than one. It's THAT good. I was never much of a sangria drinker, but their 'white sangria' changed my mind forever. For your main course, close your eyes and pick anything on the menu. It doesn't matter what you choose, you'll leave this restaurant with a smile on your face.
