| About: | This well-known 1960s celebrity haunt still attracts faithful regulars of literary and Hollywood fame. Nobody comes here for the food, but in case you are hungry there is basic Italian fare at upscale prices. However, if you are inclined to complain about the cost of things, you probably will not like it here. Reservations are recommended, but that does not mean you will get seated at one of the better tables. A drink at the bar is a good alternative, and the crowd there can be friendlier. |

Excellent! This deserves more than a 5-Star review. I went there because I'm a great fan of writer Stuart Woods and his stories featuring Stone Barrington always start with... "Elaine's, late"... I went there but, alas!, no Stone... I still enjoyed the ambience, food, and wine.

A Connecticut Poet In A New York Local Restaurant: This was certainly not the first time I was in this restaurant, and, because of the character of the owner and the food, it certainly won't be the last.
What can you about Elaine's except that it is certainly a pure example of herself. She may come accross as terse sometimes, especially to those not involved in the arts, or to those regulars at the tables not ordering enough to keep themselves from getting thirsty(that, among regulars, is just a joke.)
The steaks and osso bucco are great as is the pasta, which they will serve in many different styles. The appetizers are also are true good start, especially the seafood apps which are nice and fresh.
Fortunately the wine list is extensive enough without breaking your wallet. The drinks too, are reasonable for NYC. Remember, this is a local place first, and a tourist attractaction second. Famous writers whose book jackets decorate the wall fill the tables beneath, as do actors, musicians, and critics galore.
Should you be anywhere in the area of 2nd Ave. and 89th, stop in and look for a woman in the restaurant with big, dark brown glasses that cover her eyebrows. Everyday after four, it's Elaine Kaufman.
Once a week. I love elaine's Rest.: I look foward to my Tuesdays at Elaine's. The service is great and the crowd is always up. Food is to die for and the employees make you feel special every time you walk in the door. Thanks, Larry

Ha! I've wanted to do the same thing, just to imagine the bantor between Stone and Dino! It was fun to see your reviw, just the same...thank you.
Hi! Have you read the latest Stuart Woods? It's called "Loitering With Intent" and I thought it was excellent - as always. Regards, Christina
