I live in the Bronx, not far from the Bronx Zoo, I have taken my daughter who is 5 years old, every summer , every Wednesday that we can go. I find this zoo to be an excellent place there is so much to see, although the walking is alot, it's great for the family to talk and discover and even though the prices are quite expensive, I still enjoy it. I went to Central Park Zoo and felt cheated. It wasn't as big as the Bronx zoo, and I felt the animals here seem to have more room to run around and it's so much larger. It really is an awesome zoo, you can even throw a birthday party there, the price isn't bad considering what you get to do. I give this place 5 stars. It's the best place to visit in the summer with the kids, even for the zoo. Have you ever heard of "Boo at the Zoo" it's awesome the zoo does it every Halloween, you get to see the night creatures and there is singing going on and story telling. Holiday lights is another exibit that is so beautfil and attractive to see during the December and January months you need to check out the Bronx zoo, with so much to do, the walking is the last thing you will be thinking of. The prices can be a pain in the pocket but it's all well worth the visit to this magically place. The beautiful exquisite animals who look well cared for are just amazing .
The zoo was so stretched out and you had to double back, that by the time you saw any animals the kids were tired. It was all up hills and stairs then back downthe same way. To see any of the good animals you had to pay extra, for each one.The food was way over priced, then you had to wait ten minutes {for a pretzel}.The price for admission was unreal $15/adultand then $3 for some of the exhibits. The only way to see some of the animals was to ride the monorail. It had an extremly long wait time. We've been to much better zoo's for free.
This is simply the best zoo around-and I have been to the San Diego Zoo twice, The National Zoo in D.C. and many others. And it isn't just because I am a native New Yorker; it has great exhibits, and seems to take good care of all of the animals, but the huge and diverse enclosures allow visitors to see the animals while allowing the animals some privacy and space. Fun!!!
