Logrea is considered one of the top two ballet schools in Northern Westchester. The quality of instruction is high, and the school is well regarded. My complaints center around the treatment of the students on a personal level, and the conditions of the studio.
- The facilities are cramped and often insufficient, dirty, and often laced with a fetid odor from lingering food.
- The classrooms are often cold in the winter and when it rains hard, parts of the hallway sometimes get wet. The one toilet in the filthy bathroom often backs up and overflows into the adjoining hallway. I wish they had the money to rent space at the vacant high school or one of the renovated downtown buildings, though with the tuition they charge, and the vehicles I see the directors driving, I wonder where the money is going.
- The Academy is really focused on the Westchester Ballet Company, and feeding key talent into it. Those kids deemed "special" get a great deal of attention and extra instruction from Mrs. Logrea, often while the other children sit on the sidelines and wait during lengthy rehearsals. Talk about treating your clients badly - it's as though they're stealing the time of many and giving it to a select few! I never got the sense from the codirector (Mrs. Logrea) that any of the other kids really mattered beyond their bill, and her recitals are done in a way to showcase her select group of favorites only. Mr. Logrea is perfectly nice though, and seems to genuinely care about the students in an almost fatherly way. The students seem to respect him a great deal.
We no linger live in the area, but had we remained, we would have explored alternatives, including many of the excellent schools in Manhattan, a mere 30 minutes down the road.
I wish I had lived in the area when my daughters were studying ballet, because they would have truly benefited from the training and the environment at Logrea Dance Academy. As it was, my daughters trained at some of the top ballet Academies in the country, so I am very aware of how Logrea Dance Academy compares to other top-tier schools. My daughters are grown now, and one has made a career in dance. When I heard that LDA was looking for part-time office help, I jumped at the chance to be in a top-quality ballet envirnoment again.
The facility in Ossining has three large studios, all fully-equipped with mirrors, barres, sprung floors (which are so important to the well-being of the dancers), etc. But as is true for every dance studio, what is really important is the quality of the instruction provided.
The faculty at LDA is first-rate, in every discipline offered. From Pre-Ballet to Pre-Professional, there is no better training in the area that can compare to the quality offered at LDA.
I would not hesitate to recommend Logrea Dance Academy to anyone who wants the best in dance instruction for their child .
