The Seabury at Field Home on Catherine St on the Yorktown/Cortlandt border is a private assisted living facility with two levels of care. The less expensive level actually provides more in the way of personal space and freedom to live a comfortable and independent life. Residents can take shuttle bus service to various nearby places and return to their apartments. A nice dining room with an almost formal setting is provided and meals are ordered from menus.
The memory-assisted level of care costs more because more on site help is provided. Here, residents rent rooms with en suite toilets and bathing/showering is at hallway facilities where personal help is on hand to avoid accidents, etc. This level of care requires residents to remain within the facility unless they are checked out by responsible visitors. Activities are provided that encourage socialization and participation. A friendly atmosphere as well as a homey feel is designed into the facility.
Meals are at one of two home-style kitchens that have a refrigerator, stove, microwave oven and kitchen cabinets that may remind some of the residents that they are at home. Snacks, including fresh fruits are available throughout the day. Meals are not actually cooked in these two kitchens, but they are served at family-style tables at the kitchen areas. Choices are available and residents, while they complain now and then about the food, seem to enjoy their meals.
Personal services such as haircutting, manicures, etc. can be arranged for through the office and the custom is to bank some cash in a personal account for expenses.
My experience with The Seabury is via my father's stay there at the memory assisted part. I can recommend considering this facility for a family member who qualifies for care and can pay the charges.
