Company Information: Religious folk tell us there are Seven Deadly Sins. Now New Yorkers can partake in the Eighth Deadly Sin, the to-die-for chocolate found at Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven. And a heavenly haven it is! Torres is one of the world's premier chocolatiers, making his chocolate from cocoa beans right before your eyes. The shop is designed in the oval shape of a cocoa pod and has views for all to see of the working machines in the factory where the magic happens. After seeing the beans turn to chocolate, let the champagne truffles and creamy caramel chocolates melt in your mouth and you'll think you've entered a state of nirvana. There is another store in New York, at 350 Hudson, by the intersection with King Street.

Mr. Chocolate in D.U.M.B.O.: Anyone remember Jacques Torres from Le Cirque and "Dessert Circus" on PBS? Well, he has a chocolate factory and a small but lovely shop on Water Street.
This is good "chocolat" and it's not cheap. I left with a couple of "haven" bars, and an assortment of dark and milk chocolate flavors. They didn't last long. I recommend the dark chocolate bandol breeze, love potion, fresh squeezed lemon, wicked fun and coconut.
I'm hitting his new Manhattan store next!
excellent but overpriced: No question about the quality, but it is too expensive. I like the atmosphere and "specialness" about buying this local pricey stuff for a nice gift, but the taste does not blow you away.
for serious chocolate *freaks* only: they had a rip-off version of serendipity's copyrighted famous drink, the 'frozzen hot chocolate' --but they made sure to leave out that extra 'z' so they wouldn't get sued...that should have been an obvious enough omen NOT to buy their version, but you know me--i did, and it tasted like hot chocolate mix poured into a blender filled with ice...but...the peanut butter and jelly chocolate piece made up for it (as well as just being in there and reading off the incredible list of various chocolates they were selling)
