About a month and a half ago I discovered that I was pregnant. I quickly sought out a hospital from which to receive my prenatal care and settled on NY Methodist mainly because of its location. I called and scheduled an appointment which should have been today. I was given a few times to choose from, gave them my name, address, and date of birth, and was told what sort of information I should bring with me.
When I showed up for my appointment, however, I was told they did not have my information in their system, that there was no record of my appointment, and that they would not be able to get me in to see a doctor until mid November. I explained that I had made the appointment over a month ago, and was told that if that were true they would have it on record. I asked how I would have the list of information needed if I had not actually called, and they admitted that there could have been a computer error, but that they still could not help me. They wanted me to wait another 6 weeks to receive my first prenatal visit, which is risky and irresponsible, and the woman at the desk was accusatory and dismissive.
If a hospital cannot even be trusted to record the appointments they take, or to even attempt to rectify a mistake they have made, why would I trust them with the health and safety of me and my baby. I will be getting my care from another hospital, and recommend you do the same.
Son was born at this hospital He is now 22 years old.Doctor was very helpful
I tried to make an appointment but was on hold for 20 minutes and had to go to work before I was able to make my appointment. I tried the day before and was on hold for 5 minutes before the call was mysteriously disconnected. Perhaps this always happens in NYC hospitals, but that doesn't make it o.k.
