Company Information: Brooklyn is a hub for the art community. Music, theatre and the literati abound in this artistic borough of New York. However, there is a dearth of performing platforms despite the concentration of the art community. Barbes is probably the best venue for artists of all genres to commune and showcase their talents. The music, the food and the well-travelled, much cultured crowd make this venue a hotspot. Try the Barbes, which is a house specialty. The apertifs are also worth a try.

Great music/atmosphere: Small space, with eclectic local music acts.
A Great Bar: Barbes - A very cool bar with a French name. Its nice atmosphere and great entertainment with all types of music performed, sometimes filmstrips -- Monday nights are international film, Tuesdays readings. Also, they offer a real Irish session, a ragtime band or rumba later in the week. I love taking my friends over there -- they really enjoy it. Whenever I go I always meet very interesting, well-travelled and -learned people.
Best Music Room: The small red room in the back has the best sound of any club, even the Village Vanguard! 100% of tip jar or cover [$5-10] goes to the musicians. Low priced drinks: a pint of Brooklyn Lager is only $4. Adventurous bookings from free jazz to eastern european brass to old-timey. Even an up-to-date website with music descriptions. Worth the trip from anywhere!
