| About: | This upbeat family-style Italian restaurant will remind you of an earlier era, as will the prices. It offers friendly service, large portions of food and a child-friendly setting. The rose-colored dining room has mix and match vintage tables and chairs, framed family photographs on the walls and brass ceiling fixtures. It is often quite crowded and therefore noisy. Expect to wait at peak weekend dinner times. Manicotti, ravioli, eggplant, pasta with prosciutto and all seafood dishes are popular here. The cannoli and walnut pie make excellent desserts. |

Neighborhood Italian: For take out or in-house, excellent value for Itialian food "like Grandma used to make." Menu includes both old stanbys and different dishes than you would usually find. Leave room for dessert! Excellent Connoli (not too sweet).
Get it together Auntie!: Listen, when I moved to the poor end of Park Slope ten years ago, Aunt Suzie's was a godsend. Pretty good, pretty cheap, better than anything else on 5th Avenue, other than Cucina, the "grand dame" across the street that was getting away with mediocrity at Manhattan prices. But now both Cucina and Aunt Suzie's have competition in the neighborhood and while Cucina keeps going through growing pains, Aunt Suzie needs a good challenge. Her pastas are pedestrian, the fish and meat uninteresting and the vegetables sides are so weak you'd rather the kitchen had just left them off your plate entirely. Suzie, honey, take a walk down the street and sample the menu at one of your competitors, or read a cooking magazine or watch the Food Channel. There's a lot of inventive food out there and it's not on your menu. If it weren't for your faithful locals, you would be long gone by now.
Dependable: Aunt Suzie's is a reliable, family-oriented Italian eatery that provided consistent bang for the buck.
The menu is heavy on pasta, which is fresh and flavorful. Unlike Cucina across the street, you won't find gourmet dishes here, just good noodles and simple entrees that are consistently well-prepared (don't miss the "cheapskate menu!"). Occasional specialty dishes, such as lobster tails with pasta, can also be found.
An eclectic mixture of actual dining room tables and chairs, along with period photos on the wall, create a distinictively homey and family friendly ambience.
Service is friendly and fast.
The wait can sometimes be long on a Friday or Saturday night, and there's no real bar or anyplace within the restaurant to linger.
All in all, a great value.
