| About: | Jackson Heights restaurant is a diner in name and appearance only. It actually features excellent Indian food at ridiculously low prices. The only problem is, you have to get to this outer borough neighborhood first. Centering on Northern India and the Punjab region, the extensive menu includes tikkas, masalas, tandooris and vindaloos. I used to go to Jackson Diner many years ago when it was just down the street in what was once a diner, hence the name. Man, it was damn good!! Used to frequent it a lot with friends. Food was of authentic "desi" taste and with a good amount of spice too, that would please the palate of one who truly appreciates the taste of indian food. Was very fresh too.
Now here it was happened. Usually what occurs is that when one finds a very authentic and good ethnic restaurant in Queens, word gets out fast. Then eventually you get the NYT or VV to do an article on the joint and next thing you know, the place is overrun by uninformed and unenlightened manhattanites. The restaurant ends up catering to the non-indian palate and place truly loses all it's originality and dedication to good, honest cuisine.
Presently, the food is made in bulk, there is no pride in making it, it's very, very bland, and the tandoori is unacceptable. They totally sold us out......
The same thing is happening to that once "awesome" thai place down roosevelt in woodhaven, queens........terrible....
He is right it is obese good.: Awesome indian food. Must try vegetable samosa with tambrind sauce. mmmmmm I'm so turned on by the mango lassi.
You're crazy not to--: If you love authentic Indian food at a great price, you must go to the Jackson Diner. After the meal, go to the back of the place and buy a piece of Paan--if you don't know what it is, try it anyway. It's only a buck. If you love Indian food and don't plan on going to the Jackson Diner, you're crazy.

Ur absolutely right! I used to go there when I was 10 and they didn't have that whole big setting! The resturant was in a cubicle spot in the corner of the same block! They lost their authenticity after making it big!
