Great place to go with friends~near the movies!: Friday nights~head to chilis and see a movie. Nice place.
bad food: 1 word Terrible
Not as good as it used to be.: Date and time of visit: 8/6/05, 5:30pm
I have always thought this Chili's was one of the better chain restaurants in the Roosevelt Field area. But this recent visit really changed my mind. The restaurant was farily busy and when we went to the hostess desk we were notified that the wait was around 30 minutes and gave a name. We were a party of two and we sat in front of the desk for around 45 minutes while other parties of two were being seated, it wasn't until I went up to ask when we were up that they realized they did not put out names even though we have been sitting in front of them all that time and the area had become more vacant during our wait. That was the beginning to this less than satisfying visit.
Food: The food was average and typical. I ordered the baby back ribs, half in original flavor and half in carribbean flavor. The carribean flavor is some funky sweet concotion with a tangy dipping sauce and tiny side of mango salad, it wasn't very carribean. The orginal flavor was the usual, though the ribs were a bit dry and there was not enough sauce. We also ordered the steak and portobello mushroom fajitas. The steak was tender and had lots of the usual salty and spicy flavor that is prevalent in spanish food chains. The small amount of mushrooms that was there was cooked and flavored in the same fashion. The chimichurri sauce(cilantro, lime juice, and oily) was good for a nonauthentic spanish restaurant, but lacked the freshness and flavor that only comes with those that are homemade and not prepackaged.
Service: Unfortunately our server was not any better than the hostesses. She brought over four drinks instead of two and was kind of rude about taking them back. She was unattentive and rarely came over to ask how the food was or to see if we needed refills.
Price: For the whole meal which included two mango daiquirsi, it was around $40. Not too bad and slightly cheaper than the other restaurants in the area. But obviously not as cheap as the authentic and delicious Colombian restaurant down the street.
