Been there - saw Dickey Betts. A more mature crowd and not that packed so you cannot breath. The waitstaff was great too. When the metal heads are on stage it's another story ...
My recommendation? Go and try it because you can definately have a better time there than in many a club.
If you drink scotch, bring an extra ten bucks ... ;~)
JN from Guilderland.
Been there three times for shows: So, I guess the third time is not the charm.
The only two times had I been to NL is for concerts. I saw .38Special there and The Tragically Hip. It was a great venue and I highly reccomended seeing a show there.
The most recent show I saw there was Steve Howe, the guitarist for the band Yes. We arrived early, wanted to be front row. I was surprised when I walked in to find tables set up. We assume that the tables were set up because Steve did a very low key show and was seated the entire time himself and it worked. So, we got one of the last tables. 'We' meaning myself, my boyfriend, his teenage daughter and her friend from Germany. After a while these guys stand in front of us. You'd think with the tables you'd get some kind of guarantee, granted, we paid the same price assuming they bought their tickets in person in advance. So anyway, we asked the guys nicely to move. They didn't and the show started so I went to talk to the staff. I was told "I'll get security". Security never showed. I went back to the door and the lady was gone and I talked to an older gentleman and he said "all shows are standing room only, where ever you can find a spot you can stand.". Needless to say, I was pissed. I went back to the table and the guys had moved thank god. We kept waiting for a waitress to come around too. There were at least two of them going around. We wanted some food and drink. Finally, when the set break came I made my way to the bar and asked about finding a waitress. I was told "sorry honey, the kitchen is closed". However, I did ask about the tables and she said it was a temporary thing. THANK GOD! Now, when I'm hungry I've been known to make some rash decisions. I wanted to never go back there again and even walk out on what was one of the best concerts I have ever been to and I've been to over 20 concerts in 20 years in places like Montreal, Vermont, Saratoga and Lake Placid! I stayed and it was worth it. I will go back, however, I hope they never set up tables again, unless there is a special section or price to sit at the tables and have some kind of priority. The set up and execution of the table set up was horrible. If something like this were to happen again, I would never go back.
Untill that show my only complaint was having to stand for a very long time if you are in the front row and how incredibly hard it is to get back to where you are standing if you are anywhere near the stage. I had stood in the back of the crowd for the hip and I was front row for .38Special, tight quarters.Even just to go to the bathroom or get to the bar is a maze of people and a lot of "excuse me". I can't wait for that to return! lol
If look past my bad experience on April 13, it is a great venue and I would go see a show there again anytime, specially if the Tragically Hip return!
