Many years ago, we had a boxer pup that had her eye scratch by a cat. We had moved to LI so we went to our new vet (Great General Vet) and didn't feel comfortable handling it. So he sent us to the doggie eye doctor who said the eye had to come out and put a glass eye in $1600-2000. We came back to Dr G. and he look at the dog and said that is one way of doing it. He said come back this evening and P/U the dog.
What we saw was 2 pieces of macaroni (pasta)sutured on her eyelids acting as compression bandage, we had to put drops and ointment around the clock for a couple of weeks. 2 weeks later he took off the macaroni and she had vision in her eye...total bill $300 and she had her eye and could see. Took her back for a recheck at the doggie opthomologist just to get his opinion...the dog had vision..he was embarassed...all the degrees don't make up for compassion, experience and creative thinking.
When my horse had severe colic Dr Goodnow traveled over 40 minutes to come to my house to help. After he medicated him he stayed in my town for a few hours and came back to check on him again before heading home. He offered me a wealth of information and also called late that night to check on hime once again. I find the Doctor to be kind, knowledgeable and generous.
I am a technician at the Gardiner animal hospital and can honestly say that Dr. Goodnow is one of the most generous doctors I have ever met. The amount of love he has for his practice and clients is portrayed in his work ethic. Dr Goodnow is a honest vet who will tell you as it is and not waste your money through unecessary testing and medications. If you are looking for a new place to bring your animal call gardiner, you won't be sorry.
