I've been to max's twice since moving to the area 3 years ago. both times in the first 6 months of moving, i haven't been back since. really not that special even though i live 10 minutes from the place and drive by it daily.
Having grown up in the south around both Texas Style BBQ and Memphis style, smelling the welcoming scent of of smoked brisket luring you inside was a hopeful anticipation for the evenings dining experience. We were seated in at a comfortable table with intimate lighting. We were greated by a delightful waitress who made sure we were taken care of all evening.
We ordered appetizers, (BBQ chicken wings melted in your mouth and were deligthful); The chili was not southwestern style but southern style and was great. For the entrees we had pulled pork, brisket and the bbq chicken...each of the entrees was cooked to perfection. Moist, flavorful morsels in abundance were surrounded by your selection of traditional southern side dishes such as collard greens, corn, cheese grits, garlic potatoes and cornbread..each cooked to just the right tenderness and flavoring.
The evening was topped off with a delicious set of desserts, homemade rasberry sorbet and a sinful chocolate brown topped with cappucino kaluha ice cream. Thought I had died and gone to heaven....The delcious cup of coffee topped off the evening.
I would recommed to anyone to go for a delightful tasty evening full of warmth and a charming atmosphere. We are already planning on our next visit....
I'm from Memphis and I think this place is great. Not all Southern BBQ is the same, this is real Memphis style BBQ. Love to visit.
