In February we hoped to dine at the Fireside. The restaurant was packed. We left for a quieter place to eat. When visiting Lake Placid after Labor Day we were seated instantly and treated respectfully and promptly by the staff at Fireside.
The light fare menu was not only diverse, but also affordable with each entree under $8. The plates were piled high with quality meals. One of us had a BBQ chicken sandwich with the world's crunchiest fries. The other had a half rack of ribs that peeled off the bone. BBQ sauce was provided on the side for the diner's personal taste. With sodas the bill was less than $19 for the two of us. We even took away leftovers. Definitely our new favorite restaurant when visiting Lake Placid. The atmosphere was clean, well decorated and suitable for either casual or semi-formal dining.
I found this to be a quite relaxing restaurant with amazing food.
AVOID The Fireside Steakhouse like the PLAGUE!: Where do I begin? My husband and I booked this restaurant for our rehearsal dinner. What a mistake! I spoke to the manager on the phone several times before my August 19th banquet. I thought everything was all set. Although I admit my husband and I were late, many others were not. Still, they used this as an excuse in order to make us wait for 2 hours for our food. We had to wait because they were understaffed. We were provided with one waiter and one bartender (also the manager) for 50 people. Our waiter was extremely rude. They wound up running out of mashed potatoes, but they never came out to ask if anyone would like something in place of it. They just gave us baked potatoes. When I questioned the wrong order the waiter snapped at me, "You're just gonna have to deal with it!" Yes, just deal with it! It got worse- the chicken teriyaki was dry and flavorless and the the chicken parm sauce was obviously out of a jar.
When we got the bill we were astonished to see charges for the dessert when we were told that the dessert was included in the meal price. Not to mention we never even got an apology for our treatment.
Finally, the icing on the cake was this: in the chaos of that night I forgot my purse. When I went to pick it up the employee told me he would check the safe- no purse. He called the manager/bartender at home who informed him that she took it home with her!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I went back AGAIN to get it from the manager her husband, also a manager there, practically threw the purse at me. These are not people who don't deserve anyone's business. Please do yourself a favor- stay far far away!
