What a GREAT store!: 1st National Gifts is located right in the heart of Skaneateles in a historic building. As a matter of fact I almost didn't go in because I thought it was still a bank. I would have missed a great shopping experience if I had continued on my way.
As you walk in the building you are immediately taken with the fantastic architecture of the building. They don't make them that way anymore! An employee greeted me with a friendly smile and welcomed me to the store. They make you feel right at home. Then, you realize that the place smells great and the music they play sounds great. As you look around, there is so much to see.
1st National Gifts sells Brighton jewelry and leather goods, Portmeirion dinnerware, Polish pottery, Ahava, Camille Beckman, a large section of Judaic items, an equally large selection of Irish gifts, Skaneateles items. They have the neatest selection of greeting cards I have seen in a long time. I know I'm forgetting half of the things they carry but trust me, there is a great selection of gifts.
They have a real bank vault that has been converted into a tourist information center and also houses a historic display. Interesting to see, learned a lot.
All in all, a terrific shopping experience. A really great store in in a quaint little town. I can't wait to visit Skaneateles and 1st National Gifts again.
Their web site is great substitute for the real thing, www.firstnationalgifts.com
