Not only the best bread in the world but the best meatballs! When I was a child, my father and I would go to the Columbus Bakery and buy two loaves. We would eat one on the way home! When I was back to visit in October, my niece and I went down and got a loaf and a meatball heel. The smells when I entered the building took me back to the early days with my dad. What a jewel this place is!! If I could ever find out how to make meatballs that taste like theirs, I would be thrilled. Don't get there often from Missouri!!
As far as I can remember, whenever my uncles returned from the city, they'd bring Columbus Bakery bread and we'd eat it up. I went to college outside of Syracuse and would always have to stop in and bring the bread, three hours to home or else I couldn't come in the door. It was always at least 20 loaves of bread. If you were lucky enough to get it hot, make sure that you bring a knife and butter, because it's a sin not to have some while it was hot. Best bread EVER!!! When we walk in and buy 20 loaves, they know that the bread is coming up north to Akwesasne!!!!
