The food was exceptional. Service was attentive and friendly. Overall experience was excellent. I would deffinatly go back for more. The owner was a very nice guy and his workers knew what they were doing. Great place to eat!
one of the best pizza places in upstate, which puts it in the running for some of the best pizza anywhere. try the calzones, they're huge and delicious. avoid the fresh made subs, as there isn't a meat slicer in sight and the cuts are probably a little dated. the wings are ok, offered in hot, medium, mild, bbq and ray's. the best bing the ray's wings, named after some local celebrity or something, but delicious nonetheless. the facade is a little dated and dirty, but here it's all about the food. don't wait eat at the new york pizzeria in newport anytime you have the chance.
Can You say Facelift?: Because of the fact we were driving for hours without food and didn't know when the next stop would be, we ate here. The place looks abandoned. From the salvaged plywood sign, that was old 30 years ago, to the nastolgic filth that covers the walls. Martha Stewart would go into a seizure.
The food was ok...a run of the mill pizza, crust OK, sauce excellent, cheese was too heavy, but tasty. Pete is the cook, and I guess the owner, was a friendly guy. When I asked the hours, he seemed to be vaugue. He tries to open by 3 or 4PM, just another Up State business, opening when they want to.
My advice; If you can wait for Herkimer, Dolgeville, or Better yet Utica, wait and eat there. But if you must eat Pizza in Newport, order your pizza, wait in the car, and take it to go. And above all...don't touch anything! You really don't need to take the filth home with you.
