Four of us (two couples) made the trek on Valentines Day in hopes for a special evening. After arriving it was only a short wait to be seated for our reserved table. As we sat there for several minutes it became a bit awkward as nobody acknowledged us. We had seen many staff members walk by however none of them seemed to be our server. After 25 (almost comical) minutes we flagged down a woman (staff) and asked her if somebody would be attending to us. She acted surprised and replied that “your waitress must be busy; she should be with you shortly”. She was however able to furnish us with menus. The menus did not correspond as the prices of two contradicted the other two. Of course we realized that on a holiday evening the pricier menu would be the intended menu. Several more minutes went by and not that we wanted the buffet “special”, (and we didn’t) we came to the conclusion that if we actually wanted to eat food, we would probably have to help ourselves. Still no drinks at this point. As we got up for the buffet a woman approached us, we informed her that we decided we were going to all have the buffet special for $27.95 per person, even though we didn’t exactly know the extent of what this “special” actually included. She asked us what we would like to drink. I was kind of hoping for a look at a wine menu; however she became seemingly bothered as she nodded her head forward as to gesture, well? It made me feel like I was at a drive up window of a fast food place. Apparently we didn’t bark out our beverages selections quick enough. The buffet selections were limited; rather messy and a few items were not replenished. The man attending the carving station had a half witted sense of humor. I’m sure he actually thought he was funny though. The consensus among our small group was that the food was mediocre at best. It couldn’t have gone unnoticed that a couple sitting near us were having the same low level of service issues. We never established who our actual server was however we did get our bill from the same woman that gave us our menus. I guess we were done at that point. I guess we didn’t want coffee or anything else anyway. From our table to the exit no thank you issued. I made the mistake of thinking that if we made a trip to what was alleged to be an upscale restaurant we would have a memorable evening that was a bit above the ordinary. I was wrong! The distance traveled, the extra gasoline consumed was pointless. The Silo is NOT extraordinary. In my opinion and contrary to what you may have heard or thought (and I only call it like I see it) the overall rating of this establishment is comparable and within the same classification as a typical diner. Well, I make it a point not to make the same mistake twice, and believe me this mistake will never happen again. I don’t really mean that nobody should ever go to the Silo. I’m sure some people must have had positive experiences at the Silo somewhere along the line. However, if you plan to dine at the Silo and have high expectations, (again, based on experience) there may be a very good chance you too may be disappointed.
