| About: | This Italian restaurant was first established almost 30 years ago by the father of current owner and chef, Carmelo Raimondi. Located in an 1838 building in historic Lewiston, the innovative menu, which changes seasonally, features local products as well as Italian imports. Some of the food combinations may seem unusual at first, but they taste great when served all together. Featured dishes include pappardelle Bolognese (slow cooked veal, pork and pancetta), grilled flatiron steak with shitake mushrooms, and penne with scallops and gorgonzola sauce. The dessert menu includes a blue cheese stuffed Bosc pear and tiramisu. The wine list features mainly Italian wines, along with a few California and New York State vintages. - Christine A. Our absolute favorite restaurant - anywhere!: My husband and I have eaten at a lot of 5 star restaurants in a lot of cities around the U.S. and Canada. I've had some great dining experiences. But we always come back to Carmelo's. In short, this restaurant is the standard by which we measure all other restaurants. It's a small family owned and run restaurant in picturesque Lewiston, NY with a five star menu and atmosphere. When you walk in the door, Phyllis will welcome you with open arms. (She's the chef's mom, and a super lady!) Sit down at their polished copper bar for a great glass of wine or one of their killer Cosmos. Then get ready to enjoy a delicious dinner.
I always recommend the specials. Everything on the menu is superb, but their specials always feature what's fresh and perfect for the season, and usually only come around once, so you've got to take advantage of them while they're offered. Carmelo features creative dishes with distinct flavors that always impress. There's pastas, seafood, meats and more. To top it all off, the service is great too.
A final note - if you order a coffee after dinner, you'll get one of Phyllis's biscotti, her grandmother's recipe, compliments of the chef. But I recommend getting their house made tiramisu...it's heaven on a dish.
