big part of the city: This theater is such a big part of buffalo it is classy and classic.
Toronto isn't that far away!: On Friday June 23rd my brother and I attended the 7pm Jerry Seinfeld show at Shea's. We showed out tickets to several of the volunteer unshers and were escorted by an usher to our seats. We and the usher both confirmed that we were in the right seats. We settled in to enjoy the show and the opening act, which was another stand-up comedian, was wonderful. About 10 minutes into the act another usher brought over 2 people and insisted that we were in their seats, and that our seats were on the other side of the theatre. The usher insisted we vacate out seats and when I asked where we should move to he gestured to 2 seats in the row behind. My brother asked why he had seated us there in the first place and the usher replied "Not me, sir!"" in a very rude tone. Needless to say, it took us awhile to retain our composure after having been so aggressively and rudely forced to vacate what we believed to be our seats. After the performance was over we looked at the isle number and seat numbers that we have been led to initially and they were the same as what was on our tickets. We then approached another usher at the concession stand and explained what had happened. She in turn escorted us down to the main floor and directed us to the "person in charge of the volunteer ushers". I explained what had happened and how upset we were at being forced out of our seats by an usher who did not make any effort to redirect us to our correct seats (could that be because we were already in them) and that was rude to us and disruptive to everyone around us. The manager stated that errors do happen when ticket holders arrive late and have to be seated in the dark. We were very disappointed at his obvious lack of interest in our experience so we left. I have frequented the theatre on an number of occasions since moving to Buffalo, most recently to see "Movin' Out" a couple of months ago. This theatre is shabby and in disrepair but it gets good shows and we like to support local theatre. In discussing our experience with friends over the weekend a number of them indicated that they too have encountered very rude, disinterested, and aggressive ushers and have been seated incorrectly or witnessed others being treated as shabbily as we were. Some of the ushers are wonderful but it seems that the "middle-aged bald men with glasses" fall into the category of less than pleasant or helpful. I know these people are volunteers and that sometimes they may be overwhelmed with a large crowd with a lot of special needs, but this situation was neither. Most professional theatres won't seat late arrivals until an appropriate break or intermission and would never dream of being rude to people already seated, even if they were in the wrong seats, which we were not. Much as we tried to focus on the show we were both upset and offended at the treatment we received, and that meant that we did not get our money's worth. For that reason I will not trust my hard-earned theatre budget to Shea's ever again. Toronto just isn't that far away!
Mrs.: Everything was great at the show. It was a great night out!

I don't buy it. I have been to Shea's many times over the years and always had a pleasant experience. The staff including volunteers have been pleasant and knowledgable. As for shabby and in disrepair you are way off the mark. Shea's is a beautiful theatre. Granted they are in the process of restoring the theatre, but I can't find too many flaws. Sorry you had a bad experience, but for everyone else I would definitely give Shea's a shot. Also, much for cost effective than Totonto.
