| About: | This is one place you should not judge by its cover. Located in Buffalo's historic Allentown district, the restaurant looks like a dive. However, it has one of the best inexpensive wine lists in the city, not to mention excellent food and service. Under the direction of chef Matt Conroy, the menu is inventive featuring dishes like acampi fritters with Chipotle Sauce, and steamed mussels in scotch bonnet pepper broth. As a bonus, the restaurant is open until 3a dailyand there's an outdoor patio for warm summer evenings. |

We came to Mother's without a reservation on a Friday night around 5:00pm and had no wait for a table of six! Our server, Matt, was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and attentive. We never had to wait for a refill of our drinks and he was extremely nice. The food was excellent! Will definitely come back! The tuna and mahi mahi were out of this world and the wine list was incredible. Some of the reviews state that the waitstaff are rude and the service is poor, but I can tell you it was not true on the night we went there. Definitely try to sit in Matt's section, and you won't be disappointed!
Mother's is absolutely the BEST food I have had in Buffalo. The ingerdients are fresh. The menu is diverse and creative. The wines are excellent. And there is a fantastic Single Malt menu. The only thing I found lacking at Mother's was the wait staff. They are young, beautiful, and desparately trying to be chic, but their food knowledge is limited. Their concept of fine dining service is noexistant. Their primary goal seems to be to clear you out in a hurry so they can meet their friends at the bar for shots. Mother's owners might do better to hire wait staff that are more experienced and knowledgable about food, wine and service rather than appearances. It would make for a perfect dining experience.
Mother's is my favorite restaurant in all of Buffalo. True there are many wonderful restaurants here, but there is just something about Mothers...the atmosphere is great, as well as the food and drinks! Try a pomegranate or key lime martini, or even their house wine, and I suggest the beef tournados (spelled wrong). Great date restaurant!
