| About: | Popular with families, senior citizens and business people, this large, reasonably priced Greek-American restaurant is always busy. It's probably because they serve hearty portions of excellent food. Greek specialties include souvlaki and pastitsio, and American entrees include seafood and ribs. Their extensive breakfast menu features omelets, pancakes and other traditional American breakfast fare, along with Greek breakfast selections like spinach and feta omelets and gyro breakfast. Be sure to try their fresh squeezed orange juice, made in a special orange squeezing device. A small meeting room is bookable. - Christine A. Smyczynski |

Lowest prices for quality food, best reuben in buffalo.
Best chicken souvlaki ever. Clean Polite and Attractive servers. Room enough to walk in with 30 ppl unannouneced and have no problem getting great service. Fav dinner in Buffalo
Best diner in town: I go to diners a lot. If you don't want to patron a chain restaurant and you don't want to pay 5-star prices, then diners are the best option in Buffalo.
With that said, it becomes obvious that finding a good diner is like finding a gem. Well, if a good diner's a gem, then the Family Tree is the Hope Diamond of diners! This place is enormous. The restaurant itself must have about 70 to 80 tables. Couple that with fast service, and decent food, and you've got a sweet deal. They serve Greek food and Americana and do both equally well.
The prices range from dirt-cheap to reasonably cheap, and with the size of the place, there's virtually no waiting for a booth. the ambiance is suprisingly calm and relaxing for such a huge eatery, featuring a beautiful skylite with a huge ficas tree in the middle. As an added bonus, they make fresh-squeezed OJ which tastes 1000 times better than the sludge from concentrate served at most diners.
So, I give this place an A+ all around. Here's my detailed breakdown:
Food:
- Their greek dishes are solid. Their chicken suvlaki is quite excellent and the gyros can compete with any other greek place in town (and there's a lot of them)
- Their omlettes are quite large and filling. A good deal for the hungry breakfast muncher.
- They make a good Ruben sandwich. It's hard to find a good ruben!
- Gotta love the OJ. (Mmmm, fresh squeezed!)
The service:
- There's virtually no wait for a table here. (Even when it's busy)
- Standard diner waitress service, overloarded by the owner/family. Sometimes friendly, sometimes rude, always fast.
- My coffee never gets cold.
- My soda refills come prompty.
- They are willing to make changes to menu items to accomodate the guest. A+ there.
The ambiance:
-For such a huge restaurant, this place feels like a small diner. Lots of nooks and crannies to feel cozy in as well as open spaces.
- They get a huge nursing-home crowd here. Lots of blue hair at the tables. You know it's a bargain when you see that crowd.
-The place is always clean. Nothing fancy, but clean.
Prices:
- Always reasonable. Diners are around $10 a plate, omlettes around $6. Free refills on coffee and soda.
Dislikes:
Nothing bad at this time. It might be a bit off-putting to have the owner of the place hawking around a bit, but that is probably why the place runs so well. Besides, the place is so big that you hardly notice him.

Well, that about sums up the best diner in town. See you at the Tree!
