We're new to the area and lovers of Greek food so Mythos Cafe was a welcome find!
We've enjoyed all our meals there over the past few months. Very fresh, delicious and the service is great. They're very patient with our five year old, fried squid eating... spirited... child. :) And our 'foodie' older kids. LOL!
Especially love dining outside, watching the action on Main Street. Too bad summer is so short around here!
We've never felt 'icky' after a meal there as we have after eating at various chains (Applebees, Uno's, etc) so clearly the chains are putting something in their food that shouldn't be there. So far, it's all been great here!
We've enjoyed most of the appetizers and some of the entrees - though we're not big pasta fans so haven't tried those. Love the feta spread, the Tzajiki, the stuffed grape leaves, the various salads, the souvlaki and the spanakopita... oh, and the home-made baklava is very nice! And the roasted potatoes - very unique and very tasty!
Since we've worked through our favorite parts of the menu already, I'd like to offer our 'wish list' of things we'd love to see offered...
Regular hummus - I love hummus but not the roasted red pepper variety (sadly).
Some rotating offering of other Greek dishes, ie., seasonal dishes, just doing a different one each week for some of the less well known cuisine items.
Some hearty soups now that winter is approachhing would be fun too - and as many are bean based, very healthy too! Oh, and pot roasted Lamb - that sounds really fun and a nice hearty 'comfort' food. Wonder if rabbit would sell? *grin* I think if other chains can do fried green beans, something like fried zucchini or okra might do well.
Also, the Greek wine was very interesting! I probably wouldn't order it every time, but it was unique enough to enjoy more than once. Rather then the California wines offered - I'd prefer some local NY wines. I think it would be nice to kind of go all local for wines and even the beers. Maybe for everything. :)
Almost forgot desserts - rather than the death by chocolate that is also offered everywhere - how about in addition to the baklava, you offer something like...
Almond Biscuits from Siphnos -- Amygdalota
Almond Pears -- Amygthalota
Almond Torte -- Glykisma Amigthalou
Baked Halva -- Halvas Tou Fournou
Baked Quinces -- Kithonia Psita
I don't even know what some of these are - but I know I'd love to find out.
I hope Mythos Cafe is around for a long while as it's great food, easy to get to, and has the casual and relaxed atmosphere we prefer.
