I would not recomend the Inn on the Lake to anyone looking for a place for their wedding reception. I had my wedding reception there on 8/16/08.
The 1st reason is that Lori Proper, which is one of the banquet managers, said she could set aside a certain type of beer for my father-in-law to put behind the bar at the reception. I noticed he was drinking another beer at about 6:30pm that night when I came in from my pictures. The reception started at 5pm. When I asked the bartender where it was she said she had no clue. If I knew that it wasnât going to be there I would have just brought it myself. Lori ended up putting in the wrong reception room.
The 2nd reason is because we reserved a lake side room and ended up with a room that had a view of the indoor pool. My wife and I were very disappointed when we got to our room that night. We thought we would be able to enjoy the room and outdoor seating. When I spoke with Lori she said that someone changed our reservation the night before.
3. The last reason is because my best friendâs parents, Peter & Linda, had to drive all the way back to Syracuse that night because the Inn messed up their reservation. They made a reservation well in advance but then the Inn changed its reservation system and had to manually change over 1,000 reservations. So in that process they changed Peter & Linda's reservation to the wrong night. It even got worse because the Inn charged them for a "No Show" when they didn't show up on the wrong night.
The managing partner, Chris Burns, called me four days after I complained. His only offer was to give us one free night in a lakeside room. When I told him that wasn't good enough because that is what we were supposed to get in the first place he didn't offer anything else.
In my conclusion you should look elsewhere for a wedding reception.
If you are looking at the location for a wedding, check first because they will double book and your food will come out cold. They are not responsible for your decorations even though they force you to check them in to their office, then when they break in their possession they will not replace! They need more than 1 wedding planner for 2 wedding parties in 1 day! The hotel itself is beautiful, but the staff was much less than that when it was all said & done...they have ignored my complaints in writing to rectify situation.
It was a relaxing Inn and area: The main reason to go to Inn on the lake is for the relaxation. There are wine tours and boat rentals. If you are planning on going up there, renting a boat is a must, otherwise there isn't much to do besides relax. There also isn't much in the area food wise. We had to search for a "different" kind of restaurant, rather then the typical bar food place to go. The main issue I had was that they boast it a relaxing getaway but put the wedding tent right outside the suites. On a Saturday night, my husband and I had to hear a wedding (music, DJ, the people) all night. We wouldn't have minded it if it wasn't literally right outside our window. Also, the parking because of the wedding was impossible. The hotel should give guests priority over the wedding guests. Overall, I gave it 4 stars because it was a beautiful area, nice rooms (we stayed in the suite with the jacuzzi) and during the day, was very nice and quiet.
