   MoreWe teach self defense, awareness, mind-body coordination, self discipline and personal development through the martial art of Aikido Kokikai®. We are an all volunteer run school serving Rochester since 1984. A dedicated volunteer staff allows us to maintain accessible monthly dues. Aikido is different from other martial arts and is deeply rooted in self defense against multiple, larger, and armed attackers. We minimize the energy expended on attackers by using their own power against them. Aikido is best demonstrated when a small person is able to effortless throw a larger attacker. Therefore you don't have to be able to lift heavy objects or even be young for our techniques to be effective. Our techniques are rooted in the battlefields of feudal Japan where there was no time to "spar" with thousands of opponents awaiting you. What you learn on the mat translates well to the rest of your life, for example how to fall and how to stay calm under pressure. Come in and try a class for free. Less
