After reading all the reviews, my wife and I tried the Red Lion for the first time on 09/18/09. It was Friday nite and it was packed. Firstly, it is a
somewhat pricey, upscale kind of place and they have been around for 29 years so they must be doing something right. If I were in the restaurant business, I would look at each segment of my business and ask myself--"Is this the very best I can offer my customers"? Rather than "Is there something on the plate"? The service was excellent.
However, I do not enjoy being served tap water. Water filters are not that expensive. The waitress/server brought this beautiful, golden
small loaf of oven fresh bread. It looked wonderful. When I cut into it,
it squished down into a glutenous glob which tasted like it didn't bake long enough. The salads were mostly 4-5 kinds of lettuce. I remembered one carrot curl and one cherry tomato. But my biggest disappointmant was the seafood alfredo which was actually alfredo,
alfredo, alfredo seafood--A huge plate of pasta with an unbelievably
small amount of seafood--from what I remember, about 6 shrimp and
I believe was 2 small scallops cut in half to make it look like more.
But hey, they are doing what works. It ain't broke so there ain't nuttin'
ta fix. One very noteworthy item--Dessert. The pumpkin explosion--a whipped cream topped cake--excellent.
Trust me, this place is excellent. I have eaten or sampled atleast 10 different dinners and all has been wonderful. Don't miss out!
I have NEVER been disappointed with The Red Lion Restaurant. Their service is among the best, and the food is always fresh and tasty. I am glad they are a non-smoking facility. The restaurant's proximity to the Grand Theatre makes it perfect for my friends & I to have a lovely dinner and walk next door to see the wonderful shows...without having to park several times! I too, wish I lived closer, although I am only 35 minutes away. I would certainly recommend the Red Lion to everyone.
