| About: | This legendary old park is a National Historic Landmark, and one of the best amusement parks in the country. There are seven roller coasters -- some were built as far back as 1921, a fact possibly scarier than the rides themselves. The newest, Phantom's Revenge, was installed in May 2001. There's also the water rides, "flat" rides, and the haunted house. Don't forget the hot dogs and cotton candy! The park sometimes closes down for days at a time, so call or check the website to make sure it's open. |

Still love Kennywood after all these years. I have, however, slowed down when it comes to riding roller coasters. But my teenage daughter and her friend(s) always have a wonderful time and my preschool age twins absolutely LOVED Kiddie Land. Something for everyone. Got a good deal at Giant Eagle so admission price was reasonable. Food was priced kind of high, but that is expected at amusement parks....and they do have a picnic area available if you want to bring your own.
You won't be sorry for visiting Kennywood when you're in the Pittsburgh area!!!
ATTENTION: If traveling through Glassport to get there BEWARE of the speed trap. Drive the posted speed limit, I think it's 25 mph, or they'll get you if they see out of state license plates (and they sure got me as gas was over $4/gallon and it wasn't worth it for me to go appear in court). Don't think you can travel along with the speed of the other traffic, even if it's not really fast. They'll get ya!
Maybe it's because I grew up in Western PA, but Kennywood has a certain charm about it that no other park or amusement park I have ever been to has. Lost Kennywood is fantastic. Several of the first roller coasters in the world in the Thunderbolt, Racers, and Jack Rabbit. Many newer cutting edge coasters to match the other major parks, and the Pittsburgh Pitfall which is just like it sounds, a free fall. Don't forget the Log Jammer and Pittsburgh Plunge. The food is also great. Especially try deep friend Oreo's which are Oreos coated in funnel cake, deep fried, and with powdered sugar on them.
Great for families and everytime I brought a college girlfriend home and took her to the park, they almost always asked about Kennywood years later after reconnecting with them. Their is an air of Romance at night as well that really adds to the charm. The one negetive is that where it is located is sort of suspect but it really doesn't matter because you are in the park anyway and there is decent security throughout the parking area.
Not the greatest park, long lines, restrooms are filthy, and the park is pricey for what you get.
