Experienced a bit of nostalgia as the environs took me back to the various ethnic 'mom and pop' restaurants of my youth. The menu was limited and they offered several specialties, but all in all very adequate. At the suggestion of my dinner partner we started with wedding soup...excellent balance of flavor, but we both agreed just a bit on the salty side. Nevertheless, I would order it again. The salad was freshly prepared and a wonderful combination of different greens lightly coated (in the true European fashion) with oil and vinegar. The taste of the greens was delicate and nicely perceptible. I moved on to the special of the day 'tripe' with a side of pasta. The tripe I believe was the rumen, had a good consistency the marinara sauce was delicately prepared yet very flavorful so as not to overpower the tripe. The sauce on the pasta was not overly garlicky (I am a garlic lover) as you find in some Italian establishments with a nice balance of sweetness. My guest had the white claim sauce made with fresh claims. The portions were more than enough and we had extra to take home. The coffee was fresh and flavorful.
I wish they had even a small selection of true Italian wines by the bottle. They only serve by the glass. The merlot I got was of decent quality and I would say freshly decanted.
The other, but only minor, issue was that at 6'5" and 250lbs the chairs were a bit on the small side and for a long evening they were a slight inconvenience.
Best Italian Food: My Family loves Segneri's. We now make it a weekly tradition. The food is wonderful and the prices are not high. Our favorite thing is the people, kind and great with our kids.
Great food, BUT: My husband and I live locally and we *try* to go to Segneri's a few times a year because we like the spaghetti, but the last two times we went, the place was closed. Both times was a Saturday night around 5 or 5:30 (supposedly the restaurant opens at 4PM on Saturday). The least they could do is put up a sign, but it just seems really odd that the place is deserted like that. Morale of the story? ALWAYS CALL BEFOREHAND! You never know when they're not going to be there.
