Good store but only for a select few: Acoustic Music Works isn't a bad store, however it does have it's share of problems. If you are looking for top of the line Acoustic Guitars, banjos, and mandolins then you've come to the right store. If you're looking for information on acoustic instruments then you're still at the right store. The staff is very knowledgable to the point that at times if feels like they're talking down to you.
If you have less than $3,000 dollars to spend then you are NOT in the right store. I understand that you get what you pay for, but there is no consideration given to someone with a moderate income.
The other complaint that I have is that in the 3-4 times that I've been in the store there has always been boxes EVERYWHERE. It's difficult if not impossible to be close enough to get a good look anything because cardboard boxes, guitar cases, and a half empty bookshelf hinder your way.
All and all if you already know what you want and you have a lot of money to spare, then this is the place to go. If you like to browse and bargain hunt then this store is not for you.

Jerome's comments on Acoustic Music Works are perhaps valid for him but miss the point. I don't have +3000 to spend on an instrument either right now or in the near future but maybe I will eventually. I have been in the store many times to buy strings, thumb picks, books, try out various guitars, etc., and did not feel I was being talked down to by the people there. There are plenty of guitar stores that carry guitars that are more affordable than those at this particular store. Many of them are also fine stores. So, the focus of the Acoustic Music Works store is high-end guitars. What's wrong with that? If you look on the store's web site you will see they have no trouble selling a lot of guitars, many way higher than $3000. There are some lucky players out there who have enough cash to buy them. So be it. More power to them. As to the clutter, well, I kind of like it. I speaks of acitivity and a true working store. I will go back many times, not just for small purchases but to play and slobber (carefully) over some of the sweetest guitars I have ever seen. Hey, if this store wasn't in Pittsburgh I wouldn't know where to go to experience playing such fine guitars. I've got no special interest in defending this store or it's owners/workers or inventory. It just seems that a two star rating based on a bit of clutter and too expensive guitars seems to smack of a "fox and the sour grapes syndrome" in Jerome. I vote for four, maybe even five stars and hope that one day I'll be able to afford one of those great guitars.
