| About: | The Taj Mahal Restaurant offers one of the biggest selections of traditional Indian cuisine that you can find in the Pittsburgh area. Located in the North Hills, the restaurant gets quite busy, especially at lunchtime. The menu includes several new dishes, such as tikka tandoori , which is cheese cooked in a Punjabi style clay oven. The best part of the menu is thali , a combination dinner that provides diners with a selection of dishes to sample- a great way to try many dishes in one meal. |

the restaurant is small, and the parking lot smaller. far from being "hidden away" this is on McKnight Road, a very busy road with a lot of businesses. the only place to park is in the lot, which doesn't seem to have enough spaces for the size of the dining room (which is not very big). If you can't find a parking place, you have to turn around, which means going back where the garbage strewn dumpster area is, and attempting to get your car around without hitting employees who are milling around outside in and around the garbage which isn't entirely in the dumpsters.
After several attempts, I have yet to get into the restaurant, and seriously wonder if I'll bother again.
I wish I would have read these comments before going to this restaurant. My husband and I went there for dinner for the first time and we had the same thing happen to us.....the waiter basically ordered our whole meal for us and stated that we had to get the tandoori shrimp (on the house he said). It ended up costing us - nothing was on the house. He suggested a chicken dish that was supposed to be boneless breast meat - it consisted of all the leftover fatty pieces of meat! He seemed to be getting rid of what they had in the kitchen because as we were leaving we noticed that four other tables had the EXACT food we had! I had this food before and really liked it but this experience was very disappointing. We ended up not eating much of the stuff ordered for us. The waiter should have kept his mouth shut and let us order our own food and just maybe we could have enjoyed it. Very very pushy man he was. Very discomforting. They may have wonderful food but it sure wasn't served to us. We sure didn't want a bowl of fatty chicken parts.
After a rave review from friends, we visited recently for their lunch buffet. Unfortunately the bread was the best item on it. Every thing else looked the same. Can you say curried GOAT! Yuk!
