The most overrated restaurant in Greene county. It came very highly recommended by several friends but to much dissapointment. The waitress was very "groovy", offering excellent service throughout the meal, but the food was one of the worst meals we have ever eaten. We tried the $4.75 fried pickle appetizer and that is exactly what we got, four tiny pieces of one dill pickle over-cooked and greasy served with our salads and day-old bread.
I asked what the signature dish was, and the reply was..."we have a very large menu and everything is good", which also means "nothing". The specials were recommended as were the seafood platter and steaks. We opted for the broiled seafood platter and the grilled tuna steak. What a mistake! The seafood platter consisted of thaw-and-serve shrimp and scallops, a cold crab imperial and a nice portion of baked cod, and the tuna arrived over-cooked and frozen tasting. We sent that back for another. The vegetable medley was obviously previously frozen, very soggy and tasteless, and the recommended "to-die-for" red-skin potatoes were inedible, with a mystery seasoning that we have never tasted on potatoes. Needless to say, I think the "chef" had the night off and the dishwasher filled in. We may go back for a sandwich and a beer or cocktail which were reasonable and always full, but never again for a dinner. For $75.00,we can get a fine meal at many area restaurants, without bringing most of the meal home to feed our cats.
Excellent Food!: We were guests at a banquet held at Groovy's and the foold was excellent! The downstairs banquet rooms are First Class - best in the area. The decor is beautiful - such a thrill to go to this place. We will dine here often and tell everyone to eat at this place.
Classy, top of the line cafe: This place blows away any restaurant the Waynesburg area has ever had. A 100 year old restored Victorian building with a nostalgic American theme sets the stage to outstanding food and service. Hand cut choice steaks are a big hit. Large menu. Great Veal and seafood dishes along with a large sandwich menu. Very clean. Beautiful banquet rooms. Elegant decor with beautiful artwork. Check out the 30 foot oak bar in the Tavern - awesome!. Waynesburg is lucky to have Groovy's. It is the place to be seen with local celeb's often in company.
