I have taken all of my animals to Camelot. I have had great service by Dr Shepard and all of his staff. They are all wonderful and seem to love what they do. Within the last year, he had hired an assistant to help him. She gave inaccurate information and pricing, would not answer questions, and seemed very unprofessional. She told me my dog would die if I didn't have the surgery she suggested, but there was no tests to prove that was what surgery she needed. She also said the surgery would cost around $1500 upfront and would not even discuss payment options. Who has $1500 just laying around? This is how you treat someone you have done business with for over 10 years? She told me my dog had maybe a month or 2 to live and gave us very expensive antibiotics. I did some research, and called everywhere and all the places I called the surgery that my dog might have needed was $275. My dog did need the surgery but it didn't cost anywhere near what the assistant vet said. Always get a second opinion!!
I have no idea why the previous reviewer said such nasty things about Camelot Animal Hospital, but it made me write a review for the first time just to counter it.
Dr. Sheperd is a wonderfully funny and warm man and a very able and compassionate veterinarian. He runs a sanctuary for large abused or abandoned cats (tigers, lions, etc.) on the side, which my family has visited. It was impressive and he clearly is a man with a huge heart.
As for my animals, he helped save the life of my cat, who nearly died of onset diabetes. We are very grateful for Loverboy's continued good health every day.
Every February, his clinic has 10% teeth cleaning on top of prices that are reasonable, so we plan to go there every year even though we now live out-of-state. I highly recommend his clinic to anyone and everyone. The receptionists and assistants are always unfailingly
kind and caring, too.
I found this to be highly over rated. The prices are almost doubled of other vets in the area. My dog shook every time he had to go there. They were unfriendly and not very personable. My dog finially had to be put down, and no one there seemed to be compassionate or sensitive to my loss. Very cold, business like, and costly ! I recently got a new puppy, and I will never take her there. Women vets are much more understanding and compassionate with my puppy, and just as educated to take care of her. And by the way, she loves going to the vets !!

I completely agree with you. He is a more then capable vet, his staff are generally friendly, and he really cares about the animals. How many other vets will let you work out a payment plan if he kknows you are having hardships but love your pet. I would recommend him to anyone....
