I have been to Red Star only 2 times so far and plan to go again. Although it is a little more than most of the "chain" resturants that these locals like = it is the best resturant that I have been to since I moved to the Greensburg area. Going from a city like Richmond and Northern VA it was really hard to find a really decent resturant in this part of Westmoreland. I am very happy to eat there and drink their beer... but of course beer is a required taste :-)
My hubby and I went last week and plan to go again it was that good.
I think the food is worth the price even though it is a bit more for this area.
Cheers to Red Star.
The beer is bad, but good for out of towners.: Personally I don't like their beer, but they make a good mixed drink. I thought there food was good (esp the sushi) but I agree that the service is slow. Even if there's no one there.... No wonder I always go to Primanti Bros for Happy hour.... I still take out of towners there just because it's different and the setting is neat.
Over-rated: Being the only 'trendy' place in Greensburg I can see why this has been rated high. It is a restored train station that sells microbrew, like the restored places in Pittsburgh. But the service is mediocre and the food is way overpriced and also mediocre. If you have a lot of cash and a lot of time to wait for dinner then I say yes this place aint bad. Definitely not for the 'food-sensitive' person. The best part about this place is the restored architecture of the old train station. So go in for a Pale Ale and enjoy the building and the flat-panel TVs but I wouldn't recommend any more than that. Oh yeah and maybe go see a trance DJ there if there's one on the weekend. And maybe go to the Beer Festival they have twice a year.
Cheers!
